There is a swimming pool and tennis court on the hospital grounds. Football and netball are popular amongst the hospital staff with hospital team. Other sporting activities include cycling, horse riding (at Mqobela), angling, scuba diving (at Ponta d'Oro and Sodwana Bay), bird watching, game watching, other beach activities, hiking, 4x4 bundubashing etc. The local library caters for the readers and a couple of restaurants at the tourist lodges for the gastronomes. There are regular parties and braai's. Often groups of doctors spend a weekend at one of the Mozambican resorts and sometimes a week night at Tembe Elephant Park. Other activities include poker nights, drinking nights, sundowners at the lake and for the religious inclined Bible study nights.

Wildlife areas

Tembe Elephant Park lies about 40km west of the hospital with approximately 220 elephant and other game. Ndumu Game Reserve lies approximately 60 km west of the hospital with a wide variety of game including rhino and a rich birdlife. .Kosi Bay Nature Reserve lies about 15km east of the hospital with the magnificent Kosi Lake System (with the famous fish kraals and Raffia palm forest) and the Indian Ocean.
